March’s Sunday Drive went ahead as scheduled but the
organisers, Sandie Simonis and Chris Keeley, concluded
the Drive itself was not viable for results purposes
with no records re positions being kept.
It was a frustrating event from the very start when,
like January’s Drive, someone turned up without firstly
checking with Sandie. 22 players were allowed to play
but most of them were still in the café area at the
scheduled start time of 1.00 pm!! Tables had not been
set out and needed to be brought in from the corridor.
Once everybody was in it was discovered only NINE of
the attendees brought boards!
This was only the second time in over 25 years of
running Drives not having had enough Scrabble sets was
an issue.
As there were not enough boards, people without a
board played by phone on unofficial Scrabble apps
which is not how a Drive supposed to be about.
Some players were not happy about how things unfolded
and did not complete the required four games.
