.... The first Scrabble Drive since before COVID was held on Sunday, 9th July at Swiss Cottage. After an absence of 39 months it was great to be back together, playing our favourite word game. We were especially happy to see so many familiar faces, as well as some new players. The drive was held as a memorial to George Gruner, who was a keen Scrabble player and he kindly left the League a legacy when he passed away. Prizes for the top 3 were M&S vouchers plus Pancreatic Cancer UK charity pens and cool down fans for some of the theme word winners. Many thanks to Sandie Simonis for organising the drive and Gerry Saunders for assisting. George’s niece Anne [Gruner] was unable to attend but forwarded this short message: “Gosh, so sorry I won’t make it today. I’m so grateful and touched that George is still remembered and he would be very proud that a match is being held in his honour! I’m sure he will be looking down trying to get a triple word score himself. I hope the London Scrabble League continues to gather as I know how much George loved his Scrabble meets and I’m sure there are many other Scrabble players who love it too! Thanks!” return to top| Drive information |
